The Blue Book
Life will become quite dull without humor. Jokes are always welcomed and liked in any conversation. More so, they are an effective tool to communicate with people who don't really understand what
you're talking about. They ignite the fancy of an unscrupulous audience (grad students) and hence find a common usage (QED) in the act of a popular teacher, if not a good one.
The other day in a class brimming with females (grad school), we were discussing Markov Chains. A simple topic by the face of it but quite complex in itself. For assigning the homework problems (bah..), the Prof mentioned
the problems: "so and so in the blue book", students yelled out "which blue book", Prof blurted "the same one", "but that's red". Prof realized "Oh, mine is blue...well only, the cover". Even the girls at the back couldn't stop
laughing. It has been unarguably the best lecture till now.
The same person, Prof. Sandeep Juneja, happens to be my advisor, and incidentally he's speaking this Sunday(11 AM) on Ketchup Economics and Financial Mathematics at Prithvi Theatre, Mumbai. All are invited.
